On 27 February from 19:00 we are starting a new experiment: our “Monitoring Hub” takes place for the first time.
At this first meeting we will look more closely at the Prometheus monitoring system as our focus, and explore what characteristics it has and how best to use it for your own monitoring purposes.
What is the Monitoring Hub in general?
Broadly, the Monitoring Hub focuses on whitebox monitoring — that is, collecting data points from production systems in order to learn more about function and performance — rather than on pure alerting, which is what mainly happens with monitoring systems such as Nagios or Zabbix.
The aim of the meetup is, on the one hand, to test monitoring systems and collect data points. Through that we want to gain a better understanding of monitoring systems and of monitoring as a whole. On the other hand we also want to be a point of contact for finding solutions to concrete but nonetheless interesting monitoring problems. The possibility of setting monitoring up completely afresh should not be left out of consideration either.
Further information about the Monitoring Hub and its aims can be found on the Monitoring Hub workshop page.
